Track IV

Key Technologies and Applications of Virtual Power Plants under Market Environments
“市场背景下虚拟电厂关键技术及应用”

With the development of new-type power systems and the construction of a unified national electricity market, the large-scale integration of distributed renewable energy, flexible loads, and energy storage has significantly increased the complexity of power system operation and market mechanisms. As an effective approach for aggregating and coordinating distributed energy resources, the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) has emerged as a key solution for enhancing system flexibility, improving operational efficiency, facilitating renewable energy integration, and supporting efficient electricity market operation.
As electricity markets evolve from traditional medium- and long-term transactions toward multi-layered market structures including spot markets and ancillary service markets, VPPs are transforming from demand-response-oriented pilot projects into active market participants engaging in energy, capacity, and ancillary service markets. This transition raises new challenges for VPP modeling, operational optimization, market-oriented decision-making, uncertainty management, and information and control technologies. Moreover, the coupled operation of VPPs with integrated energy systems and transportation-energy networks further expands their technical scope and application scenarios.
This session focuses on “Key Technologies and Applications of Virtual Power Plants under Market-Oriented Environments,” aiming to explore recent theoretical advances, enabling technologies, and practical experiences of VPPs in electricity markets. Emphasis will be placed on operation and control strategies, market participation mechanisms, uncertainty analysis, information and communication technologies, and standardization. By fostering in-depth discussions between academia and industry, the session seeks to promote technological innovation and large-scale deployment of VPPs, providing technical support and insights for the development of new-type power systems and efficient electricity markets.
